David Gibbs (naturalist)

David John Gibbs (born November 26, 1958 ) is a British naturalist. His main research interests are ornithology , entomology and ecology .

Life

After attending secondary schools between 1970 and 1977, Gibbs graduated from East Berkshire College in Langley , Berkshire from 1977 to 1979 . In 1980 he enrolled at the University of Sheffield , where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1983 .

Gibbs has been a professional field entomologist since 1984 . He has been a freelance scientist since 1991 . In particular, he studied the orders of the Flies (Diptera), the Hymenoptera (Hymenoptera) and Hemiptera (Hemiptera). In 2007 and 2009 he described the two new Wollschweber species Mythenteles andalusiaca from Andalusia and Mythenteles rameli from Greece.

In addition to several scientific papers on birds, insects and ecological topics, Gibbs was also responsible for the books Irian Jaya, Indonesia, 21 January - 12 March 1991. With notes from 1992: A site guide for birdwatchers (1993), Wallacea (1996) and Pigeons and Doves : A Guide to the Pigeons and Doves of the World . The latter was published in 2001 and was created in collaboration with Eustace Barnes and John Cox.

Dedication names

In 1994 Gibbs discovered a new species of spectacled bird on Vanikoro , which he could not describe because he was unable to collect type specimens . In 2008, this species was as Vanikoro White-eye ( Zosterops gibbsi ) by Guy Dutson first described and named after David Gibbs.
