David Kekumba Yemba

David Kekumba Yemba (* in Dungu , Democratic Republic of the Congo ) is a clergyman and bishop of the United Methodist Church .

Life

After studying at the Université Libre du Congo , from which he graduated in 1970 with a licentiate in theology , he continued his studies at the University of Strasbourg , where he received his doctorate in religious studies in 1978 . He received ordination as deacon and presbyter at the Central Congo Annual Conference from Bishop John Wesley Shungu . He taught systematic theology at several universities, including at Africa University , where he was the founding dean of the theological faculty from 1991 and headed the faculty until his election as bishop in 2005. Previously, he had been dean and president of the Protestant Interdenominational Seminary in Kinshasa for 21 years .

After starting out as a school chaplain, he was a pastor in the International Protestant Parish in Kinshasa . He was Administrative Assistant (comparable to a Vicar General ) to the Bishop of the West Congo Annual Conference . He was a delegate at the worldwide general conference of the United Methodist Church in 1992. He was elected bishop by the Congo Central Conference on February 12, 2005, and was re-elected for life on August 26, 2008. In addition to his office as bishop, he took on tasks in the Church as a whole and true in ecumenism , he was Vice President of the Methodist Historical Society for Africa and from 1998 to 2006 moderator of the Faith and Order Commission in the World Council of Churches .

David Kekumba Yemba has been married to Henriette K'Untu since 1969. The couple has five children.
