David Margesson, 1st Viscount Margesson

Henry David Reginald Margesson, 1st Viscount Margesson , PC (born July 26, 1890 - † December 24, 1965 ) was a British Conservative Party politician and Minister of War from 1940 to 1942 .

Life

He was from 1922 to 1923 for the Upton constituency , from 1924 to 1942 for the Rugby constituency in the House of Commons .

From November 10, 1931, he headed the office of Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury under various Prime Ministers as Government Chief Whip until December 22, 1940. In the cabinet of Prime Minister Winston Churchill Margesson served as British Minister of War during the Second World War from December 22, 1940 until February 22, 1942.

In 1942 he was given the hereditary title Viscount Margesson , of Rugby in the County of Warwick in the Peerage of the United Kingdom . A hereditary seat in the House of Lords was associated with the title . When he died in 1965, he bequeathed the title to his son Francis Margesson, 2nd Viscount Margesson .
