David Samuel Levene

David Samuel Levene (born April 14, 1963 ) is a British classical philologist .

Life

Levene earned a BA in Literae humaniores (1985) and a Ph.D. in Classics (1989) at Brasenose College of the University of Oxford . He was then Edward White Bate Junior Research Fellow at Brasenose College from 1990 to 1993 and Lecturer in Classics at the University of Durham from 1993 to 2000 . From 2000 to 2006 he taught as Professor of Latin Language and Literature at the University of Leeds . David Samuel Levene has been Professor of Classics at New York University since 2006 .

His areas of interest are Latin prose literature , Roman religion, and the history of the Roman Republic .
