David Shumaker

David Shumaker (* 1954 in Bristol , Tennessee ) is an American local politician. From July 2011 to June 2012 he was the Mayor of Bristol in the state of Tennessee.

Life

David Shumaker, who was born in Bristol, attended Tennessee High School there until 1972. He then began studying at East Tennessee State University , where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in 1977 and his Masters of Education in 1993. As a college student he met his wife Anne and married her in August 1977. He then lived in Jonesborough for a year .

After completing his training, Shumaker worked as a social studies teacher in Washington County, Tennessee and as a driving school instructor with the Blue Ridge Job Corps in Marion, Virginia. He later served as a special education teacher for Sullivan County's Tennessee Department of Youth Development . He is currently working as a self-employed home inspector.

Shumaker's political career began in 1998 when he was first elected to the City Council of Bristol. He was three times Mayor (Mayor) of the city (2003/04, 2007/08, 2011/12) and twice Vice Mayor (Vice Mayor). In his office he was particularly involved in the areas of economic growth through tourism and the revitalization of Bristol's historic city center. He has not been a member of the city council since July 2013.
