David Stevens, Baron Stevens of Ludgate

David Robert Stevens, Baron Stevens of Ludgate (born May 26, 1936 ) is a British politician of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) and a life peer in the British House of Lords .

life and career

Stevens attended Stowe School and Sidney Sussex College in Cambridge . In 1959 he was a trainee in management at Elliott Automation .

He was a director at Hill Samual Securities from 1959 to 1968. He continued his professional career from 1968 to 1974 at the Drayton Group , also as a director. Two years after the end of his tenure there, he became Chairman of English & International . He held this office until 1979. Also in 1976, Stevens was chairman of Drayton Far East (until 1993) and Alexander Proudfoot Holdings (until 1995). From 1979 to 1993 he was Chairman of Consolidated Venture . From 1980 to 1992 he was at Drayton Consolidated . Stevens was Chairman of MIM Britannia Ltd , previously Montagu Investment Management Ltd, from 1980 to 1993.

He began his work as director of United Newspapers in 1974 and was its long-term chairman until 1999. From 1984 to 1986 he was chairman of the Economic Development Committee for Civil Engineering , and from 1985 to 1999 at Express Newspapers . At INVESCO MIM , previously Britannia Arrow Holdings , he was Chairman from 1989 to 1993, and previously Deputy Chairman from 1987 to 1989 . From 1980 to 1988, Stevens was Chairman of Drayton Japan , and from 1989 to 1995, Mid States .

In 1988 he founded the Helicopter Emergency Rescue Service and was its chairman and director until 1990. He was also chairman of Oak Industries from 1989 to 1996 and at Premier Asset Management plc , and from 1998 to 2002 at PNC Tele.Com , previously staff Number Co .

Membership in the House of Lords

Stevens was named a Life Peer as Baron Stevens of Ludgate , of Ludgate in the City of London on March 27, 1987 . Its official introduction to the House of Lords took place on March 31, 1987 with the assistance of Geoffrey Russell, 4th Baron Ampthill and Edwin McAlpine, Baron McAlpine of Moffat . He gave his inaugural address on February 19, 1988.

On the House of Lords website, he mentions the European Union as well as tax and other financial matters as topics of political interest . He mentions France , Italy and the USA as states of interest .

He was a member of the Conservative Party until 2004 , when he was expelled from the party after signing a letter in support of UKIP . He then sat as an independent Conservative in the House of Lords until he joined UKIP in 2012.

His presence on meeting days is irregular.

Honors

In 1991 he became a Fellow of Sidney Sussex College . Stevens has been the bearer of the Grand Cross of the Order of the Southern Cross since 1993 .

In 1998, he was patron ( saint ) of RCS.
