David Tecchler
David Tecchler (* around 1666 in Lechbruck am See , † 1747 in Rome ) was a German violin maker of the Baroque era . Tecchler was the most important Roman master of his time. His cellos and double basses are particularly famous and in demand .
Life and meaning
Tecchler was born in Lechbruck am See in 1666 and moved to Rome when he was around 25 to 30 years old. He mostly built instruments in the German and Italian styles. Even during his lifetime, his instruments were among the best of their time.
Today his instruments are played by many top musicians. These include Benyamin Sönmez , Robert Cohen, Denis Brott, Jakob Kullberg, Yehuda Hanani and a few others.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has an extremely rare ore lute by Tecchler in its collection .
