Life

Tor Edvin Dahl is the son of Josef Dahl (1914–1995) and his wife Evy Alice Holmen (* 1915). He first attended a teachers' college in Sagene and began studying philology after graduating in 1967 . However, he soon broke this off to work as a literary critic for the newspaper Aftenposten and as a freelance writer. His first book, the collection of short stories En sommer tung av regn , was published in 1968. In 1973 the novel Guds tjener appeared , which is considered to be his most important work. In it he deals with the Pentecostal movement , to which his parents belonged, and which has therefore strongly influenced him. In 2006 and 2008 he published Basunen and Miraklenes år, two more novels dealing with the topic.

In 1973 he received the Gyldendals legat literature prize and the Riverton Prize for the detective novel Etterforskning pågår published under the pseudonym David Torjussen . Under this pseudonym he wrote eight more detective novels until 1985. For his translation of the children's book The Witches by Roald Dahl (German title: Hexen hexen , Norwegian title: Heksene ) he received the 1986 Bastian Prize . From 1997 he published more crime novels under his own name.

He also wrote screenplays, children's books and non-fiction books, including two biographies of the preacher Aage Samuelsen and a book on the Pentecostal movement. He also wrote textbooks for religious education . In total, Dahl has published over a hundred books. This makes him one of the most productive contemporary writers in Norway.
