Davlos means "firewood". The Turkish name Kaplıca means 'warm spring' after a mineral spring near the village.

history

Davlos was built near the north coast, three kilometers from the Kantara Castle. Until 1974 the village was exclusively inhabited by Greek Cypriots.

The first Ottoman census from 1831 names 33 Greek heads of household. In 1891, under British colonial rule, the population was 396, with four Turks living in the village. These four were also counted in 1911, and by 1921 their number rose to 14. Meanwhile, the number of Greeks grew from 474 (1901) through 558 (1911) to 661 and 662 in the censuses of 1921 and 1931. During this period they left the few Turks the village. The population dropped to 599 in 1946 and dropped to 462 in 1960, only to bottom out in 1973 with only 342 residents left.

The 270 or so residents remained in the village in 1974, but they too were expelled in the summer of 1975 in revenge for attacks by Greek nationalists. Overall, the number of people who fled Davlos is likely to be around 350.

In 1976 and 1977 Turkish settlers came from Uzuntarla (Alithinos) in the Çaykara district of the Black Sea. In 2006 Kaplıca had 408 inhabitants, in 2011 only 389.
