Davos Glaris

Davos Glaris , a district (until the end of 2018 a parish ) in the Davos landscape , is a Walser settlement in the Swiss canton of Graubünden . The place is 1457  m above sea level. M. am Landwasser , below the Rinerhorn , which is accessible as a ski area with a gondola lift . The fraction encompassing an area of ​​about 30 km² has 441 inhabitants.

Like the entire Davos landscape, Glaris was settled by the Walsers at the end of the 13th century. The church of St. Nikolaus was built around 1350, which was rebuilt in 1613 and 1682. Until the beginning of the 20th century, agriculture (barley, rye) played an important role, and since then cattle breeding and tourism have been the predominant branches of industry. In addition to skiing, one of the main attractions of Glaris was an annual horn sled race . This has not taken place since 2006.
