Davit Sicharulidze

Dawit (Wasil) Sicharulidze ( Georgian დავით (ვასილ) სიხარულიძე ; born May 30, 1968 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian doctor and politician. From December 5, 2008 to August 27, 2009, he was Georgian Defense Minister .

Life

From 1993 to 1995 he worked as a doctor and psychiatrist at the Institute for Psychiatry in Tbilisi.

In 1995 he became managing director of the Georgian Atlantic Council. In 1996 he moved to the Georgian Parliament, where he worked for the Committee on Defense and Security.

In 2000 he was appointed head of the NATO department in the Georgian Foreign Ministry. In 2002 he went to Brussels , where he was Deputy Head of the Georgian NATO Mission. In 2004, President Saakashvili appointed him in March, initially for four months as Undersecretary of the National Security Council of Georgia, and then in July as one of the Deputy Defense Ministers. In October 2005 he became first deputy minister of defense, responsible for politics and planning, international relations and legal issues.

In December 2005 he became Georgian Ambassador to the United States . There he replaced Levan Mikeladze , who had been appointed to office by President Eduard Shevardnadze .

Sicharulidze is married and has two daughters. In addition to Georgian, he also speaks English, Russian and French.
