The Dawson Head is a towering promontory at the Black Coast of Palmer Lands on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located on the northwest bank of the Lehrke Inlet .
The United States Geological Survey mapped them in 1974. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in 1976 after Opie Lloyd Dawson (1919-2011) of the United States Coast Guard , commander of the icebreaker USCG Glacier in the 1968 campaign as part of the International Weddell Sea Oceanographic Expeditions .
