De Bry

de Bry is the name of a Calvinist family from Liège (in today's Belgium ) who changed their place of residence several times because of their beliefs (Liège-Strasbourg-Liège-Strasbourg-Frankfurt-Oppenheim-Frankfurt).

      • Theodor de Bry (* 1528 in Liège; † 1598 in Frankfurt) goldsmith, engraver and publisher;

        2.⚭ 28 February 1570 Katharina Rötlinger (daughter of the goldsmith Hans Rötlinger)
        • Johann Theodor de Bry (* 1561 in Liège; † 1623) engraver and publisher;
          worked in Frankfurt and Oppenheim. In 1616 he accepted Matthäus Merian into his business, who became his son-in-law the following year.
        • Johann Israel de Bry (* 1565 in Strasbourg, † 1609 in Frankfurt) publisher, engraver, (brother of Johann Theodor de Bry ); worked in Frankfurt.
          • Lucas Jennis ; Engraver, publisher in Oppenheim (stepson of Johann Israel de Bry ) ⚭ sister of the Calvinist painter and engraver Joachim Sandrart .
        • Jean-Jacques de Bry (* 1566 in Strasbourg; †?)
