De Hochepied

De Hochepied , also called Grandon de Hochepied and in Great Britain via the feminine line De Hochepied-Laprent , is the name of a Dutch family belonging to the nobility and patriciate .

The oldest known name bearers lived in the French part of Flanders at the beginning of the 16th century and were called De Boitrencourt . The name De Hochepied adopted there is a dirty name and means the limp . The family emigrated to Cologne via Antwerp at the end of the century and came to Amsterdam at the beginning of the 17th century . The De Hochepied belonged to the urban patriciate in the Golden Age . Through their trading activities at the Levantine Trade in Smyrna ( Izmir ), the De Hochepied came to the owners of the Dutch consulate there for a long time .

In 1704 a branch was appointed Hungarian barons . The elevation to the imperial count took place in 1741. In England , too, there were various family members who belonged to the English nobility . In 1819 the De Hochepied were introduced into the new Dutch nobility; in 1829 all family members were awarded the title of count . Nowadays the family is consolidated in addition to the Dutch branch in the Turkish cities of Izmir and Pera ( Istanbul ) and in France.
