The destroyer escort of Dealey class were the first of their kind after the Second World War that the United States Navy were built.
Faster and larger than their predecessors, they were armed with more powerful artillery and ASW missiles. They were later modernized. Here, the / were the depth charge hauling, -mörser and ASW missiles removed and replaced with nuclear weapons -enabled ASW missiles and a torpedo tube - mount replaced.
They were built between 1972 and 1973 decommissioned and the frigates of the Knox-class frigate replaced.

A total of 13 Dealey- class ships were built. The ships were built in series, with these being delivered to the US Navy in 3 blocks. The following table illustrates this procedure.

The Dealey (DE-1006) and Hartley (DE-1029) were sold to other states.
The Norwegian frigates of the Oslo- class are based on the design of the Dealey- class.
