Dean Karnazes (actually Constantine Karnazes ; born August 23, 1962 ) is an American ultramarathon runner and extreme athlete , who is also known as a book author.

He is of Greek descent and lives in San Francisco with his wife Julie and two children.

North Face Endurance 50

Dean Karnazes became known to European audiences as the man who conquered the "North Face Endurance 50". This is a 50/50/50 event: 50 marathons - runs in all 50 United States of America for 50 consecutive days. It started with the "Lewis and Clark Marathon" in St. Louis on September 17, 2006, the finish marathon was the "New York City Marathon" on November 5, 2006. Only eight of these runs were official marathons, during the week he ran the other routes of known events privately, so to speak.
