Dean Komel

Dean Komel (born June 7, 1960 in Bilje, Miren-Kostanjevica ) is a Slovenian philosopher and publicist .

Life

Komel studied at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana . After studying with Bernhard Waldenfels and Klaus Held in Germany in 1995, he did his doctorate on the subject of the hermeneutic criticism of anthropological orientation in contemporary philosophy . Today he is professor of contemporary and cultural philosophy at the Philosophy Department of the Philosophical Faculty at the University of Ljubljana.

Dean Komel is President of the Society for Phenomenology in Ljubljana and is involved in several editorial offices of magazines for philosophy and culture (including Phainomena , Nova Revija and Orbis Phaenomenologicus ). Since 2005 he has been research director at the Institute for Humanities Nova revija. In 2003 he received the Zois Prize of the Republic of Slovenia for outstanding scientific achievements in philosophy.

Research focus

In his research, Komel primarily deals with the meaning of philosophy in the present. In this context he also develops philosophical reflection on language, historicity, art, interculturality and human sciences. He is also the author of many articles that are critical of society and culture.
