Dean Walsh (born June 25, 1994 in Wexford ) is an Irish boxer .

Career

Dean Walsh started boxing in 2001 and participated in the 2010 European Junior Championships in Ukraine , where he finished sixth. In 2011 he won the silver medal at the Irish Youth Championships, as well as the gold medal at the Irish Intermediate Championships in 2012, the Irish U22 Championships in 2013 and the Irish Elite Championships in 2014. At the Feliks Stamm Tournament 2014, he won a bronze medal after beating in the semifinals Vitaly Dunaizew had left. At the chemistry cup 2014 in Germany and the EU championships 2014 in Bulgaria , he remained medalless.

In 2015 he again won the Irish championships with a final victory against Raymond Moylette and started at the European Games 2015 in Azerbaijan , where he reached seventh place after losing in the quarter-finals to Kastriot Sopa . His greatest success so far was winning a bronze medal in the light welterweight division at the 2015 European Championships in Bulgaria, after losing to Vitaly Dunaizew again in the semifinals. At the 2015 World Championships in Qatar , he lost in the first fight against Luis Arcón .

At the Olympic qualification tournaments in Turkey and Azerbaijan in 2016 , he failed to Collazo Sotomayor and Airin Ismetov. In 2016 and 2017 he won the Irish championship again.

Others

He is the nephew of Billy Walsh , the former head coach of the Irish national boxing team and later head coach of the US national team.
