history

After it was founded in 2000, the Münster Debating Club was a founding member of the Association of Debating Clubs at Universities (VDCH) in 2001 , which has since served as the umbrella organization for debating clubs in German-speaking countries. In the same year the club won the first German Debating Championship organized by the Berlin Debating Union with Kira Heyden and Trinh Le and reached the final of the European Universities Debating Championship in Ljubljana, Slovenia, with Christoph Busch and Jan Heßbrügge . The club also took part in the World Cup in Glasgow , Scotland , in its first year of existence. Since then, Münster has been a regular participant in the major European tournaments.

The foundation of the German Debating Society in 2003 goes back to the initiative of the Debattierclub Münster. In the same year, a tradition is established that has since found numerous imitators all over Germany: the show debate with members of the debating club and professors of the university, which is aimed at a broad student audience. In 2004 Münster won the Berlin Central And Eastern European Tournament (CEET).

The Debattierclub Münster developed into one of the German debating clubs with the largest number of members. This development enabled the club to host the German Debate Championship for 52 teams in 2006. 2007/2008 was the most successful season for the club. Münster won three of the four ZEIT debates , provided the best final speaker of all with Lukas Haffert and became German runner-up in 2008.
