Decadence is a Swedish melodic death and thrash metal band from Stockholm that was founded in 2003.

history

The band was founded in 2003 by singer Kitty "Metallic Kitty" Saric and guitarists Christian Lindholm and Niclas Rådberg. After their first appearance, drummer Peter Lindqvist joined the band. Kenneth Lantz became the band's session bass player. He was also a guitarist for the band Demented . They recorded songs for fun under the name Metal Strike. Some guitar riffs were used on later on Decadence releases.

Several appearances followed, first under the name Ravenous, then under the name Decadence. After half a year Peter Lindqvist left the band to devote himself to his other two bands, A-Bros and Canopy . In 2004 the band was looking for a new drummer and found a suitable new line-up in Patrik Frögéli. In February the band completed their first demo called Land of Despair , on which Peter Lindqvist could still be heard on drums. Kenneth Lantz recorded and mixed the demo. Guitarist Christian Lindholm left the band in the course of the year to do his military service, which resulted in guitarist Niclas Rådberg leaving the band. Session bass player Kenneth Lantz became a permanent guitarist and got out of Demented. Bassist Roberto Vacchi Segerlund and guitarist Mikael Sjölund joined the band a few months later.

In March 2005 the band recorded their debut album called Decadence . The album was again produced by Kenneth Lantz. Several appearances followed the release. After the summer tour, Mikael Sjölund was replaced by Daniel Green and Roberto Vacchi Segerlund by Joakim Antman in June. In August, Patrik Frögéli was replaced by Erik Röjås. In November the band finished the second album The Creature . In March 2006, the band split from guitarist Daniel Green and decided to continue with just four members. The band played five appearances with session guitarist Ulf Sörman ( Castillion ). In October 2006 the band signed with Sari's label HTI Records . The band released the third album 3rd Stage of Decay on November 2, 2006. On July 26, 2007, Simon Galle joined the band as the second guitarist. The second edition of 3rd Stage of Decay was released on the Japanese label Spiritual Beast . It was administered by Universal Japan .

Earache Records used the song Corrosion of 3rd Stage of Decay on the compilation Thrashing Like a Maniac . The band also signed a contract with Massacre Records , which managed the release of the third edition of 3rd Stage of Decay as well as other releases. In 2008 guitarist Simon Galle left the band. A month later, Galle was replaced by session guitarist Niklas Skogqvist. Work on the next album was in 2008 and it should be released that same year. However, the release has been postponed as the 3rd Stage of Decay reissue has just been released via Massacre Records. In addition, a doll of singer Saric was created by two Japanese fans and has been available in the official merchandise department ever since .

The first appearance with the new session guitarist Skogqvist was on the Hammer Battalion North Tour 2009 by Unleashed . The next album was again recorded and produced by Kenneth. Due to the re-release in Japan of 3rd Stage of Decay via Spiritual Beast and the success associated with it, the band decided to officially release the new album in Japan. The album Chargepoint was released on October 14, 2009 via Spiritual Beast. In June, the first music video for the song Silent Weapon (For A Quiet War) was created under the direction of Helena Starenby and Studienfrämjandet as sponsors.

style

Particularly characteristic of the band is the variable speed, the special emphasis on rhythm and melody and the variable, guttural singing of singer Saric.
