The student and future chairman Doug Otto began producing sandals in a small factory in 1973. Deckers initially produced sandals with the name Deckers Sandals . In 1985 the manufacturer received the license to manufacture Teva sandals in the future . With this license agreement, the company grew rapidly. For Teva , Deckers Outdoor Corporation was named "Company of the Year" in 1992 by Footwear News magazine .
The company currently has five shoe brands:

The brands Teva , Simpel and Hoka are also widespread in German-speaking countries.
