Deckscape is the name of a card game series from Abacusspiele by the Italian game designers Martino Chiacchiera and Silvano Sorrentino . The games are based on the concept of Escape Games , in which the other players escape from a situation or a room as quickly as possible and have to solve various tasks or puzzles. With Deckscape - The Test and Deckscape - The Fate of London , the first two games of the series appeared in the summer of 2017, with Deckscape - Robbery in Venice and Deckscape - The Secret of Eldorado , two more games were added in spring and autumn 2018.

The games in the Deckscape series, like other escape games, are designed to be played only once, as the players then know the solutions.

Theme and equipment

As with other Escape Games, the Deckscape game is about escaping a situation as quickly as possible and solving various tasks and puzzles. The games are designed for one to six players and are designed for a playing time of around 60 minutes.

The deckscape games each consist of 60 cards with scenario descriptions , puzzle tasks and hints or objects that are required to solve the puzzles. In contrast to the games in the Exit series, for example , the game components are not damaged or labeled in the game. An exception is the evaluation card, which must be labeled. You will also need pens and paper to write down notes and a clock to determine the time it took to solve the problem.

Style of play

The specific way of playing depends on the game in question. The card sets are already sorted in the numbered order from 1 to 60 and are simply read one after the other, the instructions are carried out. The first cards introduce the group of players to the respective scenario and explain the rules of the game. Individual cards with instructions are set aside and should only be used in an emergency, the evaluation card is labeled with the start time of the adventure. The players can accordingly begin to solve the present puzzles and gradually find all the solutions in order to win the game.

In the course of the game, several piles of tasks are built that can be solved in parallel. In order to solve the various puzzles in the games, other objects are sometimes required that have to be found and interpreted. If the other players have found a solution for a card, this is checked against the back and can be either correct or incorrect. If the answer is correct, the players continue to play directly with the next card, if it is wrong they get an error cross on the evaluation card and then continue playing. If the other players have the feeling that they are stuck, they can use the help cards provided.

Depending on the time it took to solve the game and the error, the players receive a score for their game at the end of the game. This results from the time to which penalty minutes are added for errors in accordance with the card instructions.

expenditure

The Deckscape series published two issues each in 2017 and 2018, and another in 2019:

The players now have the task of escaping the laboratory and solving all the tasks found.

Development and reception

The Deckscape series of games was developed by Martino Chiacchiera and Silvano Sorrentino . The games build on the concept of Escape Games and use the basic rules according to which people trapped in a room have to find a way out together. This concept is used in both computer game and live games and was implemented for board games, including the Kosmos series Exit - Das Spiel , which was named Kennerspiel des Jahres 2017. Alberto Bontempi was responsible for the graphic implementation of the Deckscape games .

Deckscape was first published in March 2017 by the Italian publisher dV Giochi in an Italian and an English version and was then published in different language versions. So appeared Deck Landscape - The test in German-speaking at Abacus Games in August 2017 in the Netherlands in 999 games in Dutch and Korea Board Games in Korean. A Spanish version at Mercurio is announced for 2018. Deckscape - The Fate of London has only appeared in Italian, English and German so far. In spring 2018, Deckscape - Raub in Venice was published again as the third part of the series in Italian, English and German.
