Dee Dee Pierce

Dee Dee Pierce , also DeDe Pierce, actually Joseph De Larois Pierce, (born February 18, 1904 in New Orleans , † November 23, 1973 ibid) was a trumpeter and vocalist of New Orleans jazz .

Pierce played in brass bands (such as the D'Jalma Garnier Brass Band , which he led after Garnier's death), had a quartet with the drummer Arnold Du Pas from 1927 to 1932 and toured with Paul Barnes in 1933 .

In 1935 he married the pianist Billie Pierce , with whom he led his own bands. In the 1950s her ensemble was the house band at Luthjen's Dance Hall and he played with her in the 1960s in the Preservation Hall Jazz Band , with whom they also toured in Germany in 1967 and played in New York in 1968.

Pierce also played with George Lewis , accompanied Ida Cox and was in the Young Tuxedo Brass Band . In 1951 he played in the Silver Leaf Brass Band . He went blind in the 1950s and then retired for a while, but was then active again as a musician.
