The Deep Lake ( English for deep lake ) is an elongated lake , which is located about one kilometer north of Cape Barne on the Antarctic Ross Island .
The lake was mapped and named by participants in the Nimrod expedition (1907–1909) under the direction of the British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton .
