The Deer Lake is a lake in the west of the Canadian belonging Province Island Newfoundland . The name of the lake is derived from the caribou herd on Newfoundland.
Located at a height of 5.4 m high , Deer Lake is 26.7 km long and a maximum of 3.4 km wide. It extends in a NE-SW direction. The water area is 67.8 km². The lake is drained at the southern end from the Humber River southwest to the Bay of Islands on the west coast of Newfoundland. The catchment area of the lake covers about 7850 km². The main tributaries are the Upper Humber River and the outflow from the Deer Lake hydropower plant , whose water comes from Grand Lake . At the northeast end of the lake is the small town of Deer Lake on the lake shore. The Trans-Canada Highway ( Route 1 ) runs along the southeastern shore of the lake. Not far from the southwestern end of the lake is the municipality of Pasadena on the south bank .
