Deer Park is a census-designated place in the northwest corner of the Town of Babylon in Suffolk County , in the state of New York ( USA ). In 2000 it had around 28,000 inhabitants.

The place is on Long Island , south of the Long Island Expressway (Interstate 495) and about 65 km east of Manhattan . The New York State Route 231 runs north-south through the village.

According to the United States Census Bureau , Deer Park covers an area of ​​approximately 16.2 square kilometers.

history

The place later called "Deer Park" was settled in 1666. The village got its current name from the "Deer Park Hotel", which opened here after 1808.

In September 1955 the launch of the USS X-1 took place here, which is the first and only small submarine of the US Navy .
