Defense for Children International

Defense for Children International (DCI) is an independent NGO that was founded in the International Year of the Child (1979). Its aim is practical, systematic and concerted action for children's rights , which are contained in the children's rights convention.

The international secretariat is located in Geneva , Switzerland. DCI has 48 sections. The organization operates on a global, regional, national and local level. On a global level, she focuses on lobbying, advocating children's rights and monitoring the implementation of the children's rights convention by states. The sections work on various child rights issues. The main topics are child labor , youth justice, child prostitution, children in armed conflict and children's rights education.

She is a member of the Coalition for the Ending of the Use of Child Soldiers and the Child Rights Information Network. DCI has advisory status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council , UNICEF , UNESCO and the Council of Europe .
