The Deichhummel ( Bombus distinguendus ) is a kind of the bumblebees ( Bombus ).
distribution
The distribution area of the Deichbumel extends from Ireland , Scotland's west coast and northern Scandinavia to the southeast to the Alps and further east to western Mongolia . In Germany it is considered endangered. The stocks in the Netherlands and England are now considered to have disappeared.
Mark
The Deichhummel is relatively large and has a long trunk. The top is orange-brown with a black band at the wings. The underside is mostly white.
Way of life
This Hummel is to open cultural landscapes bound and most visited plants such as red clover , Trifolium medium , Real kidney vetch , vetch , beach-pea , lupine , Symphytum officinale , Viper's Bugloss and thistles . The nest is usually underground, but it can also be in a ball of grass or in the abandoned burrows of mice and voles.
Danger
This species is strongly influenced by deforestation and drainage as well as by the increased occurrence of bushes. The decline in legumes and the fact that the fields are now often harvested before the meadow clover blooms also have a negative effect.
The dike bumblebee is popular in Great Britain and has become the flagship of British bumblebee conservationists as it is arguably the most endangered species. In 2011, however, specimens could be observed again in Scotland for a long time, especially when mating. The creation of a specially protected red clover meadow with a certain type of cultivation had led to the success.
