Dair Hafir or Deir Hafir ( Arabic دير حافر, DMG Dayr Ḥāfir ) is a Syrian city in Aleppo Governorate . The place with the Al-Jira military airfield is a good 50 km east of Aleppo on the highway from Aleppo to ar-Raqqa . The population was 18,948 in 2004.
During the Syrian Civil War , the regional city came under the control of insurgents from 2011 and from 2014 under the control of the Islamic State terrorist group . Syrian government troops recaptured the site in March 2017.
