The Deli at the Schillingbrücke was a techno club in Berlin that was particularly dedicated to minimal techno and minimal house . It was located at Stralauer Platz 34/35, opposite the Ostbahnhof in an industrial hall on the right bank of the Spree next to the Schilling Bridge . It was created at the end of the 1990s and was particularly characterized by the interplay of a family atmosphere and raw industrial ambience.

The club was operated by Deli e. V. , who, in addition to various dance events and concerts, also dealt with art and theater projects.

In 2002 the deli ran into problems with the authorities and was forced to close on March 23, 2002 after a raid . In May it was opened again for the theatrical performance of Don Quixote's doppelganger . At the end of 2002, the Maria am Ostbahnhof moved into the warehouse, which had to be converted in accordance with applicable fire protection regulations.

A special feature of the club was the chill-out area with a large, open fireplace and the after-hour events every Sunday .

History of the building

The hall was built in the 1920s directly on the banks of the Spree and served as a gas works for a former gas factory and as a warehouse for components. When the Berlin Wall was built, it was right on the border area, also known as the “death strip”, which is why the steps leading down to the Spree were walled up at that time. Border officials are believed to have used the hall as a warehouse and built a bunker in the basement.
