Maria am Ostbahnhof
Maria am Ostbahnhof (also: Maria am Ufer ) was a club in the Berlin district of Friedrichshain . It was located at Stralauer Platz 34, opposite the Ostbahnhof in a large industrial hall and was built in 1998 in a warehouse and administration building of the former Postbahnhof at Ostbahnhof on the street of the Paris Commune . In 2003 the club moved to the halls of the Club Deli on the street An der Schillingbrücke on the banks of the Spree . In 2005 the rear area of the hall was opened under the name Josef , which was used as a second dance floor, but also for separate, smaller events.
The club was supposed to be closed after a farewell festival on May 20 and 21, 2011, because the State of Berlin wanted to sell the site and hotels, apartments and offices were to be built there. This project was postponed and the club continued to operate until December 31, 2011 under the name "ADS" (An der Schillingbrücke). On February 17, 2012, it was taken over by new operators and after minor modifications. a. a new sound system, reopened as "Magdalena" and there are now regular weekend events again.
Although the club was connected to the Berlin techno scene, there was a music offering that went far beyond techno. Well-known DJs and VJs perform in the club , such as The Bloody Beetroots , 2ManyDjs , Miss Kittin , Laurent Garnier , Jeff Mills , DJ Krush , Roni Size , T. Raumschmiere , DJ Assault, André Galluzzi , DJ Mehdi and James Holden . Concerts were also held there, for example with the Beastie Boys , Autechre , Black Eyed Peas , Sting , The Strokes , Jamie Lidell , Soulwax , Peaches , ESG, Justice , Shellac , Battles or Ween and the annual electronics festival club transmediale .
Some scenes for the feature film Berlin Calling (2008) were shot in the club. On May 28, 2014, the YAAM celebrated its reopening on the premises. The old location, only 500 meters away, had to be abandoned at Easter 2014.
