Dementium 2

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dementium 2 (also Dementium II ) is a first-person shooter for the Nintendo DS developed by the Texan development studio Renegade Kid . It is the successor to the horror shooter Dementium: Die Anstalt and was released on July 15, 2010 in Germany. In the USA, the title was released on May 4, 2010.

action

William Redmoor awakens in the Bright Dawn Asylum . He learns from a nurse that he had brain surgery five weeks ago and is now waking up for the first time. Shortly after he is taken to his cell, the nightmares known from the previous game begin again. Redmoor learns that the doctor who operated on him released zombies and other creatures. These are now up to mischief in the real world. Immediately after arriving in the cell, the game changes into the hell dimension, in which the architecture of the environment is different than in the alternative dimension. Due to the change in dimensions, which occur very irregularly, the game allows the player to make detours that would not be possible in the alternative dimension.

Gameplay

Dementium 2 is just like its predecessor a horror first-person shooter. There are five chapters in story mode. A survival mode was added to the approximately six-hour story mode, which comprises three levels of difficulty, in which you have to hold out against waves of opponents as long as possible.

development

In contrast to its predecessor, the Renegade 2.0 engine has been improved graphically and in terms of sound. For example, the opponents now cast shadows. The inventory system is also new, with which you can collect and store ammunition and other items in eight slots . Now you can hold a flashlight and a one-handed gun at the same time. In addition, new environments (Bright Dawn Sanatorium, the US village of Pelf, the Pelfs underground mine, and the dimension of hell) are included. The weapon repertoire has also been upgraded a lot, with some items from the first part being reused (for example the circular saw ). In addition, the game now has voice output localized for the respective country.

reception

Dementium 2 was rated very well by almost all magazines, but above all the short playing time was criticized.

  • Dementium II - you've just become the handheld horror title we've all been waiting for. (atomicgamer.com)
  • Other than its disappointing length, Dementium II doesn't have a lot on the negative side (gamesabyss.com)
  • The impressively rank enemies that ram the claustrophobia home are the best we've seen on the DS since, oh ... Dementium . (Official Nintendo Magazine)
