Fritz Zerritsch the Younger

Fritz Zerritsch (born August 28, 1888 in Vienna ; † November 9, 1985 there ) was an Austrian painter and graphic artist .

Life

Fritz Zerritsch is the son of the sculptor of the same name, Fritz Zerritsch the Elder . He first attended the Scheffer painting school before studying with Christian Griepenkerl and Alois Delug at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 1905 . In 1914 he became a member of the Künstlerhaus , of which he was an honorary member since 1964. In 1929 he received the City of Vienna's Gold Medal of Honor. In 1930 he became a member of the Art Advisory Board of the City of Vienna, and in 1932 also of the Art History Museum and the City Collections. From 1939 Zerritsch was a professor at the Graphic Education and Research Institute in Vienna. In 1975 he received the City of Vienna Prize for the Cooperative of Fine Artists.

Fritz Zerritsch is buried in an honorary grave in the Grinzinger Friedhof (group 2, number 41).

Works

Fritz Zerritsch worked primarily as a landscape and animal painter. He participated in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad. He also created ceramic sculptures, tapestries, postage stamps and banknote designs.
