Demetrious Khrisna Johnson (born August 13, 1986 in Madisonville , Kentucky , United States ) is an American mixed martial arts male flyweight fighter in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) . He is considered one of the best pound-for-pound (P4P) fighters in the UFC and has been named the best flyweight in the world by the scene magazine Sherdog. Due to his small height of just 160 centimeters, his nickname is "Mighty Mouse".
life and career
Johnson was born in Kentucky and grew up in Parkland, Washington, where he attended Washington High School and attracted attention early on in various sports. Johnson was an excellent track and field athlete, wrestler, and cross-country runner. In his third and fourth years of high school, he was even able to achieve second and third places in the state championships in wrestling. Although athletics was more of a kind of complementary sport for him, Johnson managed to take part in various state championships here too.
After graduating from high school in 2007, Demetrious Johnson began a career in martial arts . He played his first amateur fight in mixed martial arts on July 29, 2006 when he won against Oren Ulrich at GF - Brawl at the Mall by technical knockout in the first round. Almost nine months later, he made his debut on the professional level in AXFC 16 - Annihilation , where he Brandon fieds by knockout defeated by just 17 seconds into the first round.
On April 24, 2010 Johnson made his debut at World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC). However, after ten successes in ten professional fights, he had to accept his first defeat by a unanimous decision in favor of his opponent Brad Pickett.
On October 28, 2010, after three fights for the WEC, Johnson became part of this promotion by taking over the WEC through the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). On February 5, 2011 he played his first fight for the UFC against the Japanese Norifumi Yamamoto, which he won. On October 1, 2011, he lost a fight against bantamweight title holder Dominick Cruz unanimously on points.
On September 22, 2012 he won the newly created flyweight title in a fight against Joseph Benavidez, which he successfully defended eight times. He only lost the title on August 4, 2018 at UFC 227 in Los Angeles , California to Henry Cejudo , against whom he was defeated in a split decision.
Johnson has played a total of 30 fights in mixed martial arts (two of which are amateur fights). He left the ring 27 times as a winner and three times as a loser. One fight ended in a draw.
