Friends of Democratic Action eV

It is the task of the Friends of Democratic Action eV to support the project "Democratic Action. A funding program for youth and schools" founded and supported by the Theodor Heuss Foundation and the Academy for Educational Reform. He wants to promote democratic upbringing and political education in youth work and schools and open up new possibilities for this.

Competition Act democratically

The Democratic Action competition is a nationwide student competition . Since 1989 it has been advertised for all general schools in Germany . We are looking for examples that represent democratic coexistence. In the school and beyond, school groups are to be addressed, but especially pupils are to be won over to participate. So far, around 6500 projects have been submitted to the competition in 28 tenders. The ideal partner of the competition is the Theodor Heuss Foundation .

Learning instead of democracy

The “Lernstatt Demokratie” is the highlight of the annual call. This multi-day event takes place in the early summer of the year following the announcement. The participants in the award-winning projects experience a week full of content with workshops, discussions with politicians and cultural events. The exchange of participants in the project exhibition is also essential for the democracy learning center. In 2015, the Lernstatt Demokratie will once again be a guest in Jena .

Foundation of a prize for democracy

The Hildegard Hamm-Brücher Prize for Democracy Learning and Experiencing has been awarded since 2009 . The first winners were Wolfgang Edelstein and Eva Madelung . In 2010 the prize was awarded to Henning Scherf . The district mayor of Neukölln, Heinz Buschkowsky , received the sponsorship award in 2011 for his commitment to education and integration policy. The award ceremony takes place every June during the conference Lernstatt Demokratie . In this way, Hildegard Hamm-Brücher wants to honor the commitment of old and young people to education and democracy.

Thuringia 19_19

The democratic experience spaces 1919 - 1949 - 1989 form the conceptual framework for the “Thuringia 19_19” project. By 2019, 19 special learning locations for democracy and human rights education are to be permanently established in the Thuringian education system - day-care centers, schools, extracurricular institutions.

financing

The democratic action funding program is financed by foundations, sponsors and free donations. The invitation to tender for the competition is funded by the BMBF . A project for regional advice, for advanced training of teachers and students, for project support for local schools and for basic funding of the nationwide final event Lernstatt Demokratie is financially supported by a group of state ministries of culture under the leadership of the Thuringian Ministry of Education.
