Democratic Alliance of the Peoples of South Ethiopia
The Democratic Alliance of the Peoples of South Ethiopia (abbreviation in Amharic mostly Debub Hibret , German "Democratic Coalition of the South Ethiopian Peoples" , English Southern Ethiopia Peoples' Democratic Coalition abbreviation SEPDC ) is a political party in the region of southern nations, nationalities and peoples , an ethnic Region in Ethiopia .
In the last legislative parliamentary elections , which were held on May 15, 2005, the Democratic Alliance of the Peoples of South Ethiopia was part of the electoral and party alliance of the United Ethiopian Democratic Forces , which won a total of 52 of the possible 527 seats in the People's House of Representatives .
The party is an amalgamation of ethnic-political groups under the leadership of Beyene Petros , but which were founded on the initiative of the EPRDF. The SEPDC - although it maintains close ties to the EPRDF - is critical of the EPRDF.
history
The Democratic Alliance of the Peoples of South Ethiopia was founded in March 1992. At that time, several parties founded a joint party alliance, which later merged into a political party. These original parties included the Gurage People's Democratic Front, the Omotic People's Democratic Front, the Kaffa People's Democratic Union, the Hadiya National Democratic Organization, Yem National Democratic Movement, the Wolliata People's Democratic Front, the Sidama Liberation Movement, the Democratic Organization of the Gedeo People, and the Democratic Organization of the Burji People.
In November of the same year, four other political groups joined the Democratic Alliance of the Peoples of South Ethiopia. These include the Democratic Movement of the Dawro People, the Democratic Union of the Timbaro People, the Democratic Union of the Omo People, and the Democratic Organization of the Kabena Nationality.
At the working session of the House of Representatives in 2003, the Democratic Alliance of the Peoples of South Ethiopia held a total of 2 parliamentary seats .
