Federal Palace (Ethiopia)

The Federal Palace ( Amharic የፌዴሬሽን ምክር ቤት , transliterated Yäfederešn Məkər Bet ; German  and Bundesrat called ) the upper house of is Ethiopian Federal Parliament (officially Parliamentary Federal Assembly ), a bicameral parliament , consisting of the Chamber of the People's House of Representatives - the lower house - and the chamber of the Parliament Building consists.

The Federal Palace was built in 1995 and is located in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa . The Bundeshaus has a maximum of 117 members ( councilors ) whose working language is Amharic . It consists of two committees, each with different areas of responsibility. One is the Regional Affairs and Constitutional Affairs Committee . The second committee is the so-called budget committee .

Members

The maximum of 117 members are called councils . According to Article 61 (Paragraph 2) of the Ethiopian Constitution of 1995 , every ethnic group in Ethiopia has the right to be represented in the national federal parliament by MPs. That is why every people has at least one member of parliament as a representative in the Federal Palace. Nations with more than one million members send an additional representative.

According to Article 61 (Paragraph 3) of the Constitution, the Bundeshaus is elected indirectly by the state parliaments of the nine federal states of the state or directly by the respective population in the states. Which path to choose is up to the individual states to decide. Anyone wishing to stand for election must be an Ethiopian citizen and at least 21 years of age. Members of the House of Representatives of the Nations may not be members of the Bundestag at the same time.
