The Syrian Democratic Council ( Aramaic ܡܘܬܒܐ ܕܣܘܪܝܐ ܕܝܡܩܪܛܝܬܐ Mawtbo d'Suriya Demoqraṭoyto , Kurdish Meclîsa Sûriya Demokratîk , Arabic مجلس سوريا الديمقراطية, abbreviated SDC [Syrian Democratic Council] ) is a political umbrella organization in the civil war in Syria . He was on 10 December 2015, al-Malikiyah as the political arm of the military umbrella organization Syrian Democratic Forces ( english Syrian Democratic Forces , abbreviated SDF ) established and selected. Both umbrella organizations emerged against the background of the de facto autonomous region of Rojava and, according to their own statements, are committed to the self-imposed goal of a secular, democratic and federally structured Syria. Co-chairman was the prominent human rights activist Haytham Manna when it was founded . In July 2018, Riyad Dirar and Amina Omar were elected co-chairs at the conference of the Democratic Council.

The Syrian Democratic Council was invited to the International Syria Negotiations in Geneva in March 2016 . However, he declined this invitation as representatives from Rojava were not invited to the negotiations.

In April 2017, according to Ilham Ahmed, the permanent population in the area ruled by the Syrian Democratic Council was 3 million. In addition, 500,000 refugees are admitted.

The General Federal Assembly and the Federal Executive Council of the umbrella organization include the Syrian Democratic Society of Ahmed Jarba , the Assyrian Unity Party , the Kurdish Party of the Democratic Union , the Kurdistan-Syrian Democratic Party , a spin-off of the Baath Party from Ibrahim Machus as well Representatives of the Yazidis represented.

According to Riyad Dirar, exploratory talks with the Assad government on administrative and military issues began in July 2018 after secret, informal meetings with representatives of the Syrian government . The Syrian Democratic Council strives for formal autonomy in the negotiations, but rejects independence.
