The Denishawn school was a professional dance school in Los Angeles with a satellite office in New York City that existed from 1915 to 1931 and by the dancers Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn was headed. The founding couple taught a combination of dance and pantomime with esoteric echoes. Affiliated to the school was the Denishawn dance company, which undertook very successful USA tours with oriental-inspired dances from 1925-26.

"Denishawn" was a kind of link between the teachings of François Delsarte to increase dance expression and the US efforts to renew stage dance in the 20th century. The school had a significant influence on modern dance as well as on exotic dance interludes in Hollywood films and in the revue of those years. The most famous students include the dance pioneer Martha Graham (until 1923), the silent film star Louise Brooks and the dance therapist Marian Chace .
