The Denizli crow ( Turkish Denizli Horozu ) is a Turkish domestic chicken , which is counted among the long crows . Its name refers to its origin in the province of Denizli in Turkey .

History and cultural-historical significance

The Denizli are of great cultural and historical importance in Turkey, where they represent one of the oldest purposefully bred chicken breeds. According to the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Turkey, they are around 500 years old. In the absence of evidence, however, historical statements about the origin of the breed are not possible. The first, very sparse mention of the breed in European literature dates from 1878. Here Leopold Fitzinger notes the "Demisli chicken", a medium-sized Turkish breed, whereby the typical crow cry is not mentioned.

features

The Denizli embody the original country fowl shape with an erect posture and a right-angled tail. The rooster weighs around 3 to 3.5 kg and the hen 2 to 2.5 kg. The eyes of the Denizli rooster are rimmed black and black. The legs are dark gray or purple in color, the beak is sharp-edged, and the ear discs are generally mottled red or red and white. Denizli roosters are divided into three groups in Turkey based on color, body type and beak shape. The voice of the Denizli rooster is also differentiated according to pitch and clarity. In Germany, the original black-gold and black-silver colors are recognized as well as the black variant created by crossing the Japanese Tomaru .

Crow cry

The Denizli crow is able to generate a crow cry of 25 seconds, in extreme cases even more than 30 seconds. Compared to other long crows, the call is relatively loud.
