Dennis (comic)

Dennis (Original title: Dennis the Menace ) is a comic strip by Hank Ketcham , which was first published in 1951.

On March 12, 1951, the first episode of Dennis the Menace , which consists of only one panel , appeared in 16 daily newspapers. Within a year, the number of newspapers publishing the comic strip rose to over 100. The comic is now published in over 1000 newspapers in 48 countries. After the inventor's death in 2001, the strip was taken care of by other cartoonists. It is distributed by King Features Syndicate .

The inspiration for the character came from the then 4-year-old son of Hank Ketcham with the same first name. Four years later a separate series was created.

Dennis is a rascal who causes great chaos with his parents and neighbors, and especially with retired Mr. Wilson, with his ideas. Dennis is the best example that the opposite of "good" is not "bad" but "well meant", because his willingness to help often ends in chaos.

Film adaptations

As early as 1959, based on the comic strips, a 13-part sitcom entitled Dennis, a rascal's story was produced, which was shown between 1961 and 1962 in the ARD's evening program . It followed from 1984 the cartoon series Dennis with two seasons and 78 episodes, 1987 the television film Dennis - The Quälgeist and 1993 the feature film Dennis, the pain in the ass . In 1998 Dennis was born - resistance is futile , 2007 was Christmas with Dennis - a nice present! released. Both were produced for the video and DVD market.
