Dennis Perrior Hunt (born September 8, 1937 in Portsmouth , † January 29, 2019 in Seabrook ) was an English football player .

Career

Hunt played in the youth division of Portsmouth FC and for Hampshire national teams before taking up his army service. There he was discovered by Jimmy Greenhalgh , assistant coach at Gillingham FC , and brought to the club in 1958. Hunt, whose strengths included his robustness and his tackles, was a permanent staff member of the Gills for ten years . In the 1963/64 season, the club succeeded as champions in promotion to the third division , the defense to goalkeeper John Simpson conceded only 30 goals in 46 games. In 1968 Hunt moved after 321 league games at Gillingham for one season to fourth division Brentford FC before he let his career as a player-coach at Folkestone FC end in amateur football. In 1970/71 he was promoted to the Southern League Premier Division .

Between May 1977 and November 1978 Hunt was still the coach of Margate FC and once again made it to the Premier Division of the Southern League. His brother Ralph Hunt , who died in a car accident in 1964 at the age of 31, was also a long-time professional footballer.
