The Bermejo department is located in the northwest of the Formosa Province in northern Argentina and is one of nine administrative units in the province.

It borders Paraguay to the north, the Patiño department to the east, the Chaco province to the south, and the Ramón Lista department and the Matacos department to the west .

The capital of the department is Laguna Yema .

According to INDEC estimates , the number of inhabitants in the Bermejo department rose from 12,710 (2001) to 14,393 inhabitants in 2005.

The Bermejo department consists of Laguna Yema , a third category municipality, the two Comisiones de Fomento Los Chiriguanos and Pozo de Maza and the Junta Vecinal Provincial Pozo del Mortero .
