Aruba Meteorological Department

The Departamento Meteorologico Aruba (short: DMA) is the official weather department on the Caribbean island of Aruba .

The state meteorological service of Aruba was founded in October 2010 after the central meteorological service in the Netherlands Antilles disbanded. The company is based in Oranjestad near Queen Beatrix International Airport .

Departments

  • The synoptic department is responsible for the daily forecast service with the aid of the most modern technology . Official warnings of severe weather and numerous other synoptic services for aviation and seafaring are also among their areas of responsibility. The DMA office at the airport responsible for aviation creates the weather data and maps for the airlines. The sea weather service advises shipping and the coast guard in the two ports of Arabu.
  • The geophysical department carries out the earthquake and geomagnetic service and compares the travel times of the seismic waves of an earthquake with observatories around the world.
  • The climate department creates climate statistics and maps using the data obtained from the monitoring network. She also researches areas of the domestic climate and its changes.
  • The electronic data processing department is equipped with state-of-the-art devices to cope with the extensive computer-controlled processes and creates, among other things, the weather models and the information on the early warning service. The entire weather data is also available online for everyone.
