Departure is the debut album by British R&B and pop singer Taio Cruz (name shown on the album as TΛIO CRUZ). It was first released on March 17, 2008. The album was produced exclusively by Cruz himself. Tim Kellett co-wrote Never Gonna Get Us and the album was mastered by Streaky.

Cruz told Digital Spy that he was trying to produce an album in which each song could have been released as a single. He told Blues & Soul that he designed the tracks in the album differently, but that he didn't want to try anything too daring. According to his own statement, the album has little resemblance to albums by other musicians in this genre.

The album reached number 17 in the UK charts. They stayed there for a total of 27 weeks. On September 5, 2008, the album was awarded gold by the BPI for 100,000 units sold .

Singles

A total of six singles from the album were released. The first, I Just Wanna Know , was released on November 6, 2006. It reached number 29 on the UK charts. Moving On came out as a second single on September 10, 2007. It was ranked 26th in the UK. The third release (March 3, 2008) was Come On Girl , this was the only one to reach the top 10 in Great Britain with fifth place. I Can Be , released on May 26th, 2008, was able to book an 18th place in the British singles chart and She's Like a Star was able to rise to number 20 after its release on August 11th, 2008. The last single I Just Wanna Know '08 was released on November 10, 2008, another version of his song I Just Wanna Know from 2006. The charts were missed.

criticism

The album received different ratings. Allmusic's Jon O'Brien said Departure would sound like an artist testing his range, but if you looked at the clichéd R&B tracks, you could tell Cruz's later talent for making hits. He awarded three stars out of five. The Guardian's Alex Macpherson also gave it a three-star rating, saying that Cruz would be weak in parts, but all in all it would be an imaginative debut. BBC's Paul Clarke gave a positive review but wrote that it sounded more like American R&B than British.
