Lester Sumrall

Lester Frank Sumrall (born February 15, 1913 in New Orleans , † April 28, 1996 ) was an ordained American clergyman and founder of the LeSEA , a mission and broadcast company .

Life

Sumrall was born the son of Betty and George Sumrall in New Orleans, Louisiana , USA . In 1930 he miraculously recovered from tuberculosis and began preaching. He founded a parish in Green Forest ( Arkansas ) and finally in 1932 in the Pentecostal embossed Assemblies of God ordained pastor's Church. Sumrall then traveled to various countries as an evangelist . While traveling, he planted a church during a revival in the Philippines . On September 30, 1944, he married Louise Layman, with whom he had three sons. The couple settled in South Bend , where Sumrall founded a church called the Cathedral of Praise .

His advisers included Alfred Howard Carter and Smith Wigglesworth .

Sumrall increasingly separated from the Assemblies of God Church. In 1957 Sumrall finally founded the Lester Sumrall Evangelistic Association (LeSEA), a Christian broadcasting company that has broadcast the radio program WHME 103.1 since 1968 and the TV program World Harvest Florida Television (WHFT) since the early 1970s . LeSEA maintains various radio and television stations, an orphanage, the World Harvest Bible College and is the editor of a magazine under the name World Harvest . Sumrall is considered the "father of Christian television". In 1973 he secured the license for the first Christian 24-hour television program with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and started WHMB Christian Television in Noblesville, Indiana .

Sumrall died on April 28, 1996 at the age of 83.
