Heřmaň depot

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Heřmaň Depot (also Hortfund von Heřmaň ) is a depot find of the Early Bronze Age Aunjetitz culture from Heřmaň in Jihočeský kraj , Czech Republic . It dates between 2000 and 1800 BC. Today the depot is divided between the National Museum in Prague , the City Museum of Horažďovice and the City Museum of Písek .

Find history

The depot was discovered east of Heřmaň before 1927 by workers extracting material for regulating the Blanice River . The site is near a hill, about 8 m north of the bridge over the current course of the river.

composition

The exact composition of the depot is unclear. It consists of at least 24 bronze objects, which Václav Moucha classifies as ring bars , while Tilmann Vachta classifies them as eyelet neck rings . Today 18 of these are in Prague and three each in Horažďovice and Písek. A lance tip and two arm rings also came to Písek. The tip of the lance and one of the rings from Heřmaň from the private collection of Václav Krška entered the museum in 1932 . It was stolen in 1969. Your affiliation to the depot is unlikely. Moucha was unable to verify whether two arm rings that had come to Písek also came from the Heřmaň depot.

The slightly oval rings have a length between 135 mm and 167 mm and a width between 115 mm and 135 mm. Their weight is between 181 g and 196 g. Moucha estimates the total weight of the items at over 4.4 kg.
