The Hoym depot (also known as Hoym's hoard find ) is a depot find of the early Bronze Age Aunjetitz culture from Hoym , a district of the municipality of Seeland in the Salzland district ( Saxony-Anhalt ).

Find history

The depot was discovered in June 1910 during earthworks in advance of a new building.

composition

The depot was found in a ceramic jug that had an incomplete bottom of the vessel as a lid. The jug contained 15 bronze objects : eight massive arm rings, six knob rings and a tattoo needle . The arm rings have a longitudinal diameter between 6.25 cm and 6.7 cm, a transverse diameter between 5.2 cm and 5.4 cm and a weight between 21 g and 22 g. They are cast, hammered and polished. Hammering reveals narrow, faceted surfaces on some specimens. The studded rings are made of flat wire. Its diameter is 1.1 cm on the inside and 1.5 cm on the outside, and its weight is 2.5 g. Since they are too small as finger rings, Paul Höfer assumed that they were used as necklaces. The needle has a length of 6 cm and a width of 0.5 cm in the middle. Their weight is 2 g. Of all the pieces in the depot, it shows the finest workmanship.
