Depot of Kosov

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kosov Depot (also known as the Kosov hoard ) is a depot find of the Early Bronze Age Aunjetitz culture from Kosov , a district of Kamenný Újezd in Jihočeský kraj , Czech Republic . It dates between 2000 and 1800 BC. The objects still preserved from the depot are now in the South Bohemian Museum in Budweis .

Find history

Part of the depot was discovered in May 1894, south-southeast of Kosov, when a drainage channel was created on the east side of the Čekanov pond at a depth of 0.5 m. During the renovation of the canal on November 21, 1923, more objects were found. The finds show a bog patina, which indicates that the site was already in prehistoric times in a wetland.

composition

In 1894, 22 bronze objects were initially recovered: eight arm spirals , five eyelet neck rings and nine arm rings . Under the arm spirals there are three low, three medium and one high ones, all of which are made from a ribbon with a circular cross-section. In addition, there is a spiral made from a band with a lens-shaped cross section. One of the arm rings is significantly larger than the other. The objects found in 1923 are two decorative discs (Faleren) and an amber pendant. The Faleren have a diameter of 124 mm. They have a decor of concentric circles, which are filled with transverse grooves and pine branch patterns. The two Faleren were originally connected to each other by rivets. The pendant was square and had a hole in the middle. A bracelet and the amber pendant are lost today.
