The Kyhna depository find

The Kyhna depot find from Kyhna , a district of Wiedemar in the district of Northern Saxony ( Saxony ) dates from the Bronze Age (around 2100 BC) and can be assigned to the Aunjetitz culture (2300–1550 BC). It contains pieces of jewelery made of amber , but mostly bronze , including bow needles and a kind of lance tip.

Typologically, the lance tip occupies a special position. It can only be compared with finds from the eastern Mediterranean. Either it is a skilful imitation or an import (exchange object). In the Early Bronze Age finds , pale ore metals (arsenic or antimony bronzes ) dominate. Pale ore copper was widespread in the Central European Early Bronze Age. Nickel-rich Fahlerzkupfer is typical of the early finds, which besides Kyhna also includes Dieskau III, Halle-Giebichenstein and Schollene. For the upswing of metallurgy at the beginning of the Early Bronze Age in Central Germany, nickel-rich pale ore copper obviously had a special meaning.

The depot is presumably connected to the circular moats of the late Neolithic period, which are not far away . The reasons for the laying down of bronze horts are unknown. Presumably they were offerings to gods. Maybe they hid the owners in wartime. In most cases the objects laid down: dishes, jewelry, tools or weapons have been willfully broken, which is not the case here.

The deposit from Kyhna is exhibited in the State Museum of Archeology in Chemnitz .
